Beckstein: “Fraunhofer institute will be fixed firmly in Bayreuth”
On Wednesday, prime minister Dr. Günther Beckstein was impressed by the research facilities which arose during the last few years, when visiting the “hill of technology” in the industrial zone Bayreuth-Wolfsbach. Along with his wife Marga, the regional party prominence of CSU with Lord Mayor Dr. Michael Hohl and member of the parliament Walter Nadler in front, as well as numerous ambassadors from management, science and research, Beckstein visited the centre of excellence New Materials as well as the workspaces of the Fraunhofer task groups ceramic composites and process innovation.
The Fraunhofer task group ceramic composites was founded in Bayreuth on July 1st of 2006 and works on the dimensioning, fabrication and inspection of ceramic high temperature lightweight construction material in close collaboration with the local university and the Fraunhofer institute for research of silicates of Würzburg. These are not only applied in aerospace, but find their way into continuously new fields of application due to their custom-designed adjustable attribute profile and so spark great interest of the industry.
The prime minister characterized the centre of excellence New Materials, which started its functional activities by the development of innovative materials and procedures in 2003 and which meanwhile bursts at the seams, as “impressive track record”. Soon, the new building of the “Technology centre New Materials of Bayreuth” will be constructed in immediate vicinity of the centre of excellence as private investment. Thus, the way is paved for a proper technology park. According to Beckstein, an important target of the new programme of innovation “Bavaria fit – research, innovation, technology” is to advance the Fraunhofer task groups in the industry, positioned in Bayreuth since 2006, and to fix firmly as Fraunhofer institution in Bayreuth.
After visiting the hill of technology, Beckstein conducted on to the Rotmain hall, where a manifestation of CSU of Bayreuth about state and district election took place with the prime minister as keynote speaker.
